Dear Parents,
The time has come for the second grade science experiment presentations. These presentations will be done on Mondays (some Tuesdays due to holidays). Each student will present an individual science experiment for the class. This is not a science fair but just simple science experiments. Students have some choices to consider for their experiments.
1. An experiment that they find in a book or online. They can always add their own ideas or steps to make it their own or an inquiry-based experiment.
2. An inquiry-based experiment in which they make up and design themselves. They may be wondering or thinking about something in science. They could come up with an experiment based on their wonderings.
Each student must have these parts/steps in his/her experiment
1. Topic
2. Question- After you have chosen your topic, what are your questions about the topic?
3. Hypothesis
4. Materials
5. Procedures
6. Results
7. Conclusion
Please put these seven components on index cards with a short explanation. Each index card is to organize their experiment, their thinking, and what they plan to say when presenting to the group. A simple explanation or just a few sentences should be written on each card.
Parents, these should be very simple and age appropriate. Some of the best experiments use simple things that you have in your cupboards at home. There can be NO fire or animals (district policy). Each student should practice/rehearse at home. They are to bring everything to school on their assigned day. If they need assistance during the experiment, I can help or better yet, another student can help.

Let me know if you have any questions!
Have fun!
